ADUs as a form of subsidized rental housing

Presenting at today's Design Symposium by Honolulu AIA's Housing Committee, I remembered a short article on the economic impacts of Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) in Honolulu. If projections on the number of new ADUs created in 2018 are similar to previous years, the City will have waived about $3.6MM in permit fees, but helped create an estimated 500 new dwelling units. It would also have also have helped generate more than two times that cost in private spending, jobs and income generated, and state tax revenue.
