Will Luxury Apartments be the New Subsidized Housing?
According to a new report by the Wall Street Journal (a brief summary available here without a subscription via Denver Patch), the City of Denver plans to implement a stipend program to subsidize low income housing in luxury apartments. The Lower Income Voucher Equity program, or LIVE Denver, will receive funding from a variety of sources. According to the LIVE Denver website, "Currently in Denver, the largest rental-housing inventory exists for the highest income levels while the lowest available inventory exists for low to moderate income individuals and families. "
With such a familiar story playing out here in Honolulu, could a similar program be in our future?
